7 September 2010 - Direct Selling contributes positively to EU strategy to create quality employment for women

A new opinion released by the European Parliament Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, on behalf of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality stresses the need for greater enforcement of laws protecting women from inequality in the workplace as well as the improvement of working conditions for precarious workers in the EU, the majority of whom are women. Direct selling offers honest and sustainable income earning opportunities and thus contributes positively to the endeavours of the EU and EP to improve the situation for precarious workers by creating quality alternatives.

6 September 2010 - IMCO Announces Timeline for Amendments to Consumer Rights Draft Report

At meetings held 12-13 of July, IMCO announced a new timetable for amendments and voting procedure of possible changes proposed to the Consumer rights draft report. A vote on all changes is set for 9 December 2010. Discussion regarding the appropriate harmonisation approach and the best structure of Article 4 (‘Full Harmonisation’ in the Commission Proposal) were the focus of the committee meetings.

European Parliament JURI Committee studies on Consumer Rights

The European Parliament Legal Affairs Committee (JURI) commissioned 2 studies in relation to the proposed Consumer Rights Directive. The studies were presented and discussed in the JURI Committee during its 10 November meeting.
